A ground-breaking fusion of Bungee-Assisted Dance and pure contemporary, Straw Dog explores the internal battle between the best and worse elements of the human condition. It’s as beautiful as it is brutal; dynamic, savage energy, harnessed and tempered with the grace and elegance of flight, Straw Dog is an art form unlike any you’ve seen before.
Choreographed in collaboration with the award-winning Henri Oguike and commissioned by Without Walls, Straw Dog has been touring at major festivals around the country, to great acclaim from audiences and critics alike.
The piece is an exercise in graceful danger: the men run towards each other and the audience and then are held in treacherous poses that seem to challenge gravity. [...] They fly like Superman and manipulate each other; one swinging the other into sideway spins by the legs, the other, turning his opponent into a somersault mid air, as a soprano voice sings her accompaniment to this strange, slow motion battle. It is not clear to me which wolf wins in the end, but I leave enamoured with the art form I have just seen and a resolution to find somewhere I can learn to “bungee dance”
