Director of Learning and Participation

Michaela was one of the original members of the Wired performance team having performed in She lies with Me, an aerial dance theatre production created with the support of Dance NorthWest, moons ago. Her interest for the company spans its entire existence as she regularly participated in aerial workshops and summer intensives over the years.

Michaela has been leading dance delivery in FE and HE colleges in the Northwest for almost 30 years and joined Wired in 2018. Originally working as Aerial Dance Developer, Michaela dedicated her time to introducing people to Wired’s work and enriching learning experiences in aerial dance which also involved leading on the delivery of the Higher Education Aerial Performance modules at LIPA.

In her new role as Director of Learning and Participation, Michaela will be working inclusively with local communities, school groups and councils to ensure the relationships we build are meaningful and to ensure there is an opportunity for everyone to enjoy the incredible work the artistic and technical directors create.

She will be liaising with local agencies to ensure Wired’s work is rigorous and accurate, creating workshop packages that explore themes within the performances and offering inset sessions for teachers. Her role involves exploring key partnership opportunities with local leaders in the community to ensure the work we do is authentic and inclusive.

Every day has something different, meeting new people and building meaningful relationships where possible.  But her love of teaching Bungee-Assisted dance remains her true passion and she is excited to see the next generation of artists being introduced to this breath-taking technique.
